Minutes after the Eagles used their second-round selection on Vanderbilt tight end Eli Stowers, Howie Roseman completed a long-rumored trade.
Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Eagles have traded their second of two third-round picks this season (No. 98 overall) and a third-round pick next year to the Minnesota Vikings for outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard.
If you need an idea of how long the Eagles have been interested in Greenard for, Dianna Russini reported for The Athletic on March 11 that the "Eagles continue to inquire about the Vikings’ Jonathan Greenard and remain in contact with his agent about a potential extension if a deal were to be struck." Enough said.
The 28-year-old Greenard has two years remaining on a four-year/$76 million contract, but the $38 million in guarantees he got at the time of signing that contract have all be paid out. So there are no remaining guarantees on Greenard's deal. It remains to be seen whether Greenard gets an adjustment on the way in the door.
Originally a third-round pick by the Houston Texans in 2020, Greenard has recorded 38 sacks in six seasons in the NFL. But after he posted a 12-sack season for the Vikings in 2024, Greenard slipped to just three sacks in 12 games a season ago.
The Eagles have one remaining third-round pick, which is the 68th overall pick. Ironically, they got that in a trade for a former star pass rusher when they sent Haason Reddick to the New York Jets prior to the 2024 season.
