A hazardous materials incident prompted an emergency response Friday morning in Hatfield Township after a tractor-trailer began leaking a chemical substance onto Route 309.
The incident was reported around 10:38 a.m. near 824 Bethlehem Pike, between County Line Road and Trewigtown Road. Dispatch notes indicated a four-axle short tractor-trailer operated by R+L Carriers was leaking hydrogen peroxide, identified as UN2014, into the roadway.
Authorities said four of six containers on the truck were damaged, with the chemical spilling into both southbound lanes. Emergency crews, including Hatfield Police Department, Hatfield Fire Company and VMSC Emergency Medical Services, responded to the scene to manage the hazardous materials situation.
Officials have not reported any injuries. Motorists were advised to avoid the area as crews worked to contain the spill and ensure the roadway could be safely reopened.
Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
