Two women were hospitalized Tuesday morning following a multi-vehicle crash on the 202 Parkway in Montgomery Township.

The crash occurred at the intersection with Knapp Road at 9:15 a.m. on April 23. Police said a Kia Sportage, driven by an 18-year-old female from Phoenixville, was traveling northbound on the 202 Parkway when it collided with a Hyundai Ioniq that was traveling eastbound on Knapp Road.

The driver of the Kia was transported from the scene via ambulance to Grand View Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said. The driver of the Hyundai, identified as a 37-year-old woman from North Wales, sustained a serious head injury in the crash and was also transported from the scene via ambulance to Grand View Hospital.

Investigators said the preliminary investigation indicates the Hyundai had travelled through a red signal, which caused the crash. However, police added the investigation was ongoing.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene after sustaining disabling damage. A portion of Knapp Road was closed in both directions as a result of the crash, and northbound traffic on the 202 Parkway was reduced to one lane.

The Hyundai also knocked down a street sign and caused damage to the curbing at the northeast corner of the intersection. The scene was cleared at 10:19 a.m., at which point both roadways reopened, police said.

Police said two witnesses were cooperating with their investigation.

Responding units included Montgomery Township Police, VMSC Emergency Medical Services, and fire police from the Fire Department of Montgomery Township.

Second crash occurs at same intersection hours later

Several hours after the scene was cleared, first responders were dispatched to the same intersection for a different vehicle crash.

Dispatch reports show Montgomery Township Police responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries at 3:52 p.m. Arriving personnel found a Lexus SUV with heavy front-end damage, as well as a Chevy Impala with disabling damage.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The driver of the Lexus suffered undisclosed injuries as a result of the crash, and they were transported from the scene via ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.

Like the first crash on Tuesday, a portion of Knapp Road was closed as a result of the incident, and the 202 Parkway was reduced to one lane as crews worked to clear the scene.
