A crash involving a vehicle and utility pole slowed traffic and prompted a rescue response Thursday evening in Hatfield Township.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 5:38 p.m. to the intersection of Derstine Road and Elroy Road, near Arbor Green Court, for a report of a vehicle into a pole with possible entrapment, according to Montgomery County dispatch reports.
Witnesses reported the driver of a white Toyota struck a utility pole hard enough to snap it, with smoke coming from the vehicle after the crash. Airbags were deployed, and callers told dispatchers the female driver was conscious and alert but initially unable to get out of the vehicle.
Firefighters from Hatfield Volunteer Fire Company and Colmar Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene along with EMS personnel.
One person was transported from the scene by VMSC Emergency Medical Services after being temporarily trapped inside the vehicle due to the position of the damaged pole.
Traffic along Derstine Road was reduced to a single lane Thursday evening while emergency crews and PPL Electric Utilities worked at the scene.
No additional information on the extent of injuries or the cause of the crash was immediately available Thursday night.
