Three tiny raccoon kits learned this week that while curiosity may get you stuck in a chimney, Lansdale Police are apparently equipped to handle both criminals and critters.

Lansdale Police Sgt. Matthew "The Fox Whisperer" Erbele and Officers John Ruel and Karly Harney responded to a borough home Tuesday night after three young raccoons somehow became trapped inside a residential chimney, according to police.

Instead of a routine call, officers found themselves starring in a real-life fuzzy version of "Mission Impossible," carefully working to remove the frightened kits from the narrow space without injuring them.

Police said the rescue was successful, with all three baby raccoons safely pulled from the chimney and brought outside unharmed.

The kits were later transferred into the care of the Aark Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center, a nonprofit wildlife rescue organization that rehabilitates injured and orphaned animals across the region before returning them to the wild.

While Lansdale officers are more accustomed to traffic stops and emergency calls than raccoon extractions, the department joked the rescue was “just another day of protecting all members of our community, great and small.”
