They’ve also had time to build up a lot of options. Over the years, more colors kept getting added—neutral ones like Bone and Onyx, along with a bunch of seasonal tones. So when you’re putting together a summer outfit, it usually doesn’t take much effort to find something that works.
Most people don’t go in looking for one exact pair either. They’ll just scroll through a Yeezy slides collection, see what looks right in the moment, and go with that.
The open front is another reason they work so well. There’s nothing covering your toes, so air moves freely. On really hot days, that makes a noticeable difference. Your toes aren’t boxed in, and everything just feels more relaxed.

At least for now, the choices are still pretty tight. There are only three colorways out—grey, black, and red. The essentials are there, especially if you just want something easy to match, but compared to slides, it’s not the same level of flexibility yet.

When you put them side by side, it really comes down to how you’re using them.
Slides are about ease. Quick trips, relaxed days, anything where you don’t want to think too much.
The Mind 001 is a bit more versatile. It works better if you’re going to be out longer or moving around more, while still staying lightweight.
Breathability is also pretty clear-cut. Slides win just because they’re open. The Mind 001 does well with mesh, but it’s not the same feeling.
Color options are another difference. Slides have years of releases behind them, so there’s a lot more variety. The Mind 001 is still early, so choices are limited for now.
As for comfort, it’s less about which one is better and more about what you prefer. Slides feel soft and simple. The Mind 001 feels a bit more structured and slightly more responsive.
Most people aren’t choosing one over the other.
They’re switching.
Slides for when you just need to head out quickly. The Mind 001 for days when you’ll be on your feet longer but still want something light.
That’s kind of where things are right now. It’s less about finding one perfect pair, and more about having options that fit different parts of your day.
Yeezy Slides haven’t really lost their place. If anything, they’ve become the baseline for summer footwear.
The Nike Mind 001 isn’t replacing that—it’s just adding something new into the mix.
And honestly, that’s what makes this summer a little more interesting than the last one.
