Upper Gwynedd Township will begin its annual street sweeping program in May as part of ongoing efforts to maintain cleaner, safer neighborhoods and protect the local environment.

The township has contracted Arena Sweeping to carry out scheduled cleanings throughout the community, targeting debris that has built up over the winter and early spring months. Officials said the program helps remove dirt, leaves, trash and other pollutants from roadways — improving public safety, reducing the risk of localized flooding and helping extend the lifespan of pavement.

Residents are being asked to assist crews by keeping streets clear of yard waste and debris. Township officials specifically urged homeowners not to push grass clippings or leaves into the roadway and to secure any construction or landscaping materials that could interfere with sweeping operations.

Officials also encouraged drivers to use caution and patience when encountering sweeping crews working along township roads.

In response to resident questions about fall leaf collection, the township said it previously explored offering a municipal yard waste pickup program but found costs to be too high.

Instead, officials launched a pilot leaf drop-off program at the township building last fall, supplementing the requirement that private trash haulers provide twice-yearly yard waste collection. Township leaders said those efforts will continue to be evaluated moving forward.
