A Bucks County teen is facing charges after Montgomery Township Police said he was found in possession of a stolen vehicle traced back to Philadelphia.

Logan Connor Smith, 18, of the 400 block of Hatboro Road, Northampton Township, was charged April 16 with receiving stolen property following an investigation in the parking lot of Gwynedd Crossing, according to court documents.

Police said officers located a gray 2022 Honda Accord around 10:40 a.m. in the lot of Staples along Bethlehem Pike. The vehicle’s registration had been flagged as stolen, and detectives later confirmed through the VIN that it had been reported stolen by Philadelphia Police earlier that day.

According to the affidavit, officers set up surveillance on the vehicle and, at about 11:04 a.m., observed Smith approach the car and attempt to enter the driver’s side as police moved in. Police said the vehicle was running at the time, and Smith was found in possession of an electronic aftermarket key fob.

Smith told investigators he had purchased the vehicle for $500 from someone he met through Facebook Marketplace but had not completed any paperwork or legal transfer, police said.

The vehicle’s owner later responded to the scene and confirmed the car had not been recovered and that he still had both original keys. Police said personal items belonging to Smith, including identification and a bank card, were found inside the vehicle.

Smith is free on $5,000 unsecured bail, with a preliminary hearing set for June 2 before Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
