Devlin graduates from nationally recognized command training course

Lansdale Borough Police Chief Ryan Devlin has completed one of the nation’s top leadership programs for law enforcement, marking a milestone in his professional development and the department’s ongoing investment in modern policing.

Devlin graduated from the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command, Class #626, a nationally recognized program designed to prepare mid- and upper-level supervisors for senior leadership roles.

The course is widely regarded as one of the premier training programs in the country, combining academic study with real-world application across a range of policing disciplines.

Joining Devlin at the graduation were Lt. Adrienne Gori, Mayor Rachael Bollens, and Lansdale Borough Manager John Ernst, underscoring the significance of the achievement for both the department and the community.

The intensive program focuses on areas critical to today’s law enforcement leaders, including leadership principles, organizational behavior, strategic planning, and resource management. Participants are also trained in decision-making, critical incident response, communications, and personnel management — skills officials say are essential in an evolving public safety landscape.

According to Northwestern, the program has graduated more than 21,500 law enforcement professionals since its inception in 1983 and is considered among the most academically rigorous leadership courses available. Students are required to complete university-level coursework, including research projects aimed at addressing real-world challenges within their agencies.

Lansdale Police officials said the experience will further strengthen leadership within the department and enhance its ability to serve residents. The training is designed to help command staff think strategically, improve operational efficiency, and build accountability systems within their organizations.

Community members and regional partners also shared their support online following the announcement.

Former councilman Jack Hansen praised Devlin’s leadership, writing, “You are doing a great job and I know you will make Lansdale and the entire policing community proud that you are the leader you are.”

Other messages of congratulations came from residents, business owners, and neighboring departments, including New Hanover Township.

Officials said the knowledge gained through the program will support Lansdale Police’s continued commitment to delivering high-quality service while adapting to the demands of modern policing.
