2-vehicle crash results in one driver treated by EMS at scene, traffic diverted at Broad Street Monday afternoon
One elderly driver was transported by VMSC Emergency Medical Services with potentially life-threatening injuries to St. Luke's Grand View Hospital following a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon that closed part of Bethlehem Pike in Hatfield Township.
The crash, reported around 2:03 p.m., involved a black Chevrolet SUV and a white Kia Soul, both sustaining heavy front-end damage. The injured driver was behind the wheel of the Kia.
Initial emergency county dispatch reports indicated flames coming from one of the vehicles, though no active fire was found upon arrival, with smoke observed instead.
Responding agencies included Colmar Fire Company, Hatfield Fire Co., Hatfield Township Police Department, Montgomery Township Fire Police and VMSC Emergency Medical Services.
An elderly driver of the Kia remained inside the vehicle and was treated by EMS at the scene. The driver was conscious and not trapped, though still in the vehicle as of about 2:28 p.m.
At least one male was reported with head and eye injuries, according to dispatch information.
Northbound Bethlehem Pike was shut down at Broad Street, with all traffic diverted, while southbound lanes remained open.
Further details, including the extent of injuries and cause of the crash, were not immediately available.
