The Telford Borough Council Monday, May 12 approved the naming of a portion of borough-owned land as Telford Veterans Memorial Park.
The park will be located on the 0.627 acres of open land bordered by Hamilton and Washington Streets and Hamlin and Madison Avenues. The borough purchased the land from the Trinity UCC Church in 2023.
Borough officials are currently exploring a design plan for the park, said council member John Taylor, with an eye towards a veterans’ memorial. He added that they are consulting the Telford VFW as well as state representatives in an effort to secure grant funding for the project.
Business closure
Taylor announced that Shekala’s Boutique, one of two tenants in the SEPTA-owned Telford Train Station, is closing its doors. Council members suggested contacting the Chamber of Commerce and local vendors in pursuit of a replacement tenant that can cover the rent. Council recently approved a new 20-year lease of the building with a substantial rent hike.
New meeting room arrangement
Council discussed a proposed rearrangement of the council meeting room to ensure that council members are directly facing residents. The plan includes a U-shaped table formation on the room’s northern side, with two 84’x24’ tables flanked by 48’x24’ and 84’x24’ tables. Council noted that the arrangement would improve communication with both in-person and virtual attendees and provide room for additional audience seating.
Telford Night Market
Taylor announced the beginning of the Telford Night Market on May 28 at 5:30 p.m on Main Street. The weekly event will run until August 17, featuring live music, food trucks, vendors and children’s activities. 78 vendors have been secured for the season, with applications continuing to come in, Taylor said.
