Eric Peter Weschke Outperforms the Market with Client-Centered Strategies and Long-Term Vision

When looking at the 29-year career of Eric Peter Weschke, it’s clear that results have always been the focus, but not just in numbers. Behind every portfolio review, educational seminar, and client relationship is a long-standing commitment to helping people build confidence in their financial futures.

As the President and CEO of Advancedfolio Capital Management, Weschke leads with both precision and purpose, drawing on decades of hands-on experience and an educational foundation that runs deep.

Finance is in Weschke’s blood. He’s a second-generation professional in the industry, following in the footsteps of his mother, who was one of the first women to work on the floor of the exchange in the late 1960s. Being around trading and investing at such a young age made a lasting impression, influencing his decision to pursue a career in financial advising.

Today, Weschke is widely regarded as a leading financial educator in New York, recognized for his former role as the host of Smart Planning Radio and for conducting hundreds of complimentary seminars and workshops throughout his career. His efforts have empowered individuals, families, and businesses to more effectively plan for, protect, and grow their financial assets.

Building Advancedfolio: A Career Milestone

Out of all the projects and roles that have defined Weschke’s professional experience, the one that stands out as the most meaningful is the creation of his own firm, Advancedfolio Capital Management. Starting this company allowed him to help more people—and help them more significantly—than at any other point in his career.

Weschke has seen dramatic improvements in the financial well-being of his clients and attributes these changes to the structure, strategy, and values that guide the firm’s work. Some clients have seen portfolio performance that is two times better than their previous results. In 2024, his firm reviewed portfolios in the seven-figure range that were performing six times better under Advancedfolio’s guidance compared to their original benchmarks.

Helping people turn their financial situations around is what motivates Weschke. He sees every opportunity to improve a client’s future as a chance to deliver tangible value, and that belief is what continues to fuel his work even when market conditions are tough.

Professional Background and Industry Credentials

Weschke graduated with honors from the University at Albany, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Finance and Management Information Systems. Over the years, Weschke has worn a number of hats—analyst, educator, executive—and each role has added to his broad expertise.

He’s spoken on financial planning to corporate audiences across the country and once served as Chief Technical Analyst for the Swing-Trader Market Newsletter, where he applied in-depth market research to guide real-time investment decisions.

Weschke’s work has also included corporate-level financial operations. He was part of the senior executive underwriting team responsible for a $20 million initial public bond offering. He has also overseen and executed institutional orders for the Institutional Pension Fund IGHL and held executive roles at the First National Bank of Arizona, where he served as both Senior Executive Vice President, Lending Officer, and North East Regional Planner.

In 1993, during his time at Northwestern Mutual, Weschke was recognized as the top-performing first-year representative in the country based on volume alone. A decade later, he earned the title of Advisor of the Year at Comprehensive Planning for outstanding early performance.

Weschke’s professional credentials reflect both depth and versatility. He holds a Series 65 and 66 license and is authorized to offer investment advice as a fiduciary, along with life, health, and disability insurance.  Throughout the course of his career, Eric has worked with thousands of households and has managed client assets as both a retail manager and senior financial advisor.

Observations on the Industry and Its Direction

Eric Peter Weschke remains focused on client outcomes even during periods of economic uncertainty or market volatility. He approaches challenging conditions with a long-term perspective, focusing on how each decision contributes to client stability and future growth.

One pattern he’s observed is a shift in how investors think about risk. More clients are becoming open to risk-off assets, which are designed to reduce the level of fluctuation within a portfolio. Weschke considers this shift important because risk-off assets play a role in overall portfolio returns and can help reduce volatility.

At the same time, Weschke sees challenges within the financial advising profession. Many firms have difficulty explaining what makes their services different. Others present complex or overly broad strategies that don’t perform well when compared to established benchmarks. After reviewing hundreds of portfolios each month, Weschke has identified consistent patterns of underperformance across the industry.

Looking ahead, he expects the advisory industry to change significantly. Over the next five to ten years, he believes firms that consistently fail to deliver strong, risk-adjusted results will begin to merge or exit the space, leaving fewer but more competitive players in the field.

Guidance for Aspiring Financial Professionals

For those thinking about entering the financial advising profession, Weschke recommends combining education with experience. He encourages new professionals to read as much as possible about financial planning and then gain practical experience by working in a local firm. He suggests beginning with an entry-level position, which can provide insight into real-world financial challenges and the day-to-day work of advising clients.

Reflecting on his own early career, Weschke wishes he had been more open to exploring new roles. At the time, he often turned down certain offers due to his loyalty to the firms he worked for. Looking back, he sees how some of those opportunities could have expanded his knowledge and professional growth.

Finding a Work-Life Balance on Long Island

Although Advancedfolio serves clients across the country, Weschke is based in Long Island, New York. He lives there with his wife of 26 years and their two daughters. He believes the region is well-suited for financial professionals due to the large number of high-net-worth clients looking for customized investment strategies that are tailored to their specific needs.

Outside of work, Weschke leads a physically active lifestyle, regularly working out, running, and participating in a variety of sports. He also values time spent traveling with his family, which gets his mind off his usual responsibilities and allows him to focus on his personal life instead.

Guided By A Defining Mission and Mindset

There’s one quote that continues to shape the way Eric Peter Weschke approaches his work and life. In the movie A Bronx Tale, the line reads: “The worst thing in the world is wasted talent.” This idea drives everything he does, from managing his firm to helping the next generation of advisors.

Weschke believes in giving 100% to the profession he chose and using his skills to make a lasting difference. He sees it as his responsibility to apply his knowledge and skills in ways that create real, long-term value. Whether advising clients, mentoring colleagues, or leading professional seminars, he approaches each endeavor with focus, care, and purpose—hoping to make an impact at every turn.
