Polly wants an owner.

Hatfield Township Police are trying to help reunite a loose parrot with its owner after the bird was spotted flying and perched in the area of Bergey and Cowpath roads Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the parrot was first reported around 1:40 p.m. Wednesday and was later seen sitting high atop a tree near the intersection while “calling out loudly.” Officers and residents attempted to safely capture the bird, but police said those efforts were unsuccessful.

“Surely he/she belongs to someone,” police wrote in a social media post alerting the community to the wandering bird’s presence.

The parrot was still believed to be in the area as of Wednesday afternoon, police said. Anyone missing a parrot — or who may know its owner — is encouraged to contact Hatfield Police.

Escaped pet birds can often remain close to familiar surroundings for several hours or days, especially if they are socialized household pets accustomed to human interaction. Experts generally recommend owners use familiar voices, favorite foods or a visible cage to help lure birds back safely.

Hatfield Police did not release additional details about the bird’s species or markings.
