Bucks County District Attorney Joe Khan has officially appointed Jack Slattery as Chief of the Bucks County Detectives, formalizing a leadership transition within the office’s investigative division.
Slattery had been serving as acting chief since January and now permanently assumes the role following the retirement of longtime Chief Greg Beidler at the end of 2025. Officials said the appointment ensures continuity for the bureau, which serves as the primary investigative arm of the District Attorney’s Office.
“Jack Slattery is a consummate professional who has spent his entire career preparing for this level of responsibility,” Khan said. “His recent leadership as Interim Chief, combined with his elite training, makes him uniquely qualified to lead our detectives. He understands the complexities of modern policing and has the tactical and administrative expertise to keep Bucks County safe.”
Slattery brings more than 23 years of law enforcement experience in Bucks County. He began his career in 2003 with the Bristol Township Police Department, where he served nearly a decade as a patrol officer and detective. He joined the Bucks County Detectives in 2012, later rising to deputy chief in 2019, a position he held until his appointment this year.
His background also includes advanced leadership training. In 2022, Slattery graduated from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, a 10-week program focused on law enforcement management, ethics and strategic planning.
The appointment drew praise from law enforcement leaders across the county. Middletown Township Police Chief Joseph Bartorilla, president of the Police Chiefs’ Association of Bucks County, described Slattery as a respected leader and collaborator.
“I am thrilled to see Jack Slattery appointed as Chief,” Bartorilla said. “He has built a reputation as a skilled investigator, a strong leader, and a true professional. I am confident that under his leadership, the County Detectives will continue to excel while advancing new ideas that will further strengthen an already outstanding investigative unit.”
Slattery said he is focused on continuing the bureau’s work in partnership with local departments and prosecutors.
“I’m truly humbled by this opportunity,” Slattery said. “I want to thank District Attorney Khan for the trust he is placing in me. I’m very proud to continue working alongside our excellent attorneys, detectives, professional staff, and law enforcement partners to protect the citizens of Bucks County.”
The Bucks County Detectives provide specialized investigative support to municipal police departments in complex cases, including homicides, narcotics trafficking and economic crimes.
