A Lansdale-based pitmaster known for his success on the competitive barbecue circuit is set to appear on national television as a contestant on the upcoming season of BBQ Brawl.

"BBQ Bob" Trudnak, a longtime barbecue competitor and instructor, will be among 12 contestants competing for the title of “Master of ’Cue” when the show premieres Monday, May 11 at 9 p.m. on Food Network. The series features pitmasters from across the country and abroad competing under the guidance of celebrity chefs.

Trudnak will compete as part of a team led by Brooke Williamson, alongside other contestants, while teams are coached by well-known culinary figures including Bobby Flay and Maneet Chauhan. The competition takes place at Star Hill Ranch in Austin, TX.

With more than 25 years in the food industry, Trudnak has built a reputation through appearances at major barbecue competitions, including the Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational, the American Royal and the World Food Championships. He has accumulated more than 300 competition wins and has taught cooking classes across the United States and internationally.

In addition to competition success, Trudnak operates a catering business in Montgomery County and has developed a line of sauces and seasonings based on his experience in the culinary world. He is also known for his instructional approach to barbecue, regularly teaching others techniques developed over decades of live-fire cooking.

“I want to be No. 1,” Trudnak said. “People think that I’m just a traditional competition cook and I’m gonna slap BBQ sauce on everything, but I have tricks up my sleeve.”

The new season of “BBQ Brawl” will feature a range of pitmasters competing in challenges designed to test skill, creativity and adaptability, with one ultimately earning the title of Master of ’Cue.
