Emergency crews from Fire Department of Montgomery Township are on scene at the Five Points intersection after a gas line was struck late Wednesday morning, prompting road closures and a response from utility crews.
According to dispatch, the incident occurred around 11:13 a.m. in the area of 728 Bethlehem Pike, near the Tobacco Hut, when construction crews working along the shoulder of Cowpath Road hit a gas line while digging a trench.
Fire police were requested to assist with traffic control at Taylor Road, as PECO was called to respond to the active leak.
Authorities have closed Cowpath Road between Taylor Road and the Five Points intersection near the entrances to BJ’s and Lowe’s, with traffic being diverted around the area. Fire police are working to secure the scene and restrict access while crews assess the situation.
No injuries have been reported. Motorists are advised to avoid the area as emergency responders and utility crews work to contain the leak and make repairs.
