Woman in her 50s injured Friday night along Welsh Road; police sought public’s help before locating vehicle
Towamencin Township Police have identified the driver involved in a pedestrian hit-and-run crash that injured an Ardmore woman Friday night, according to an update issued Sunday morning.
Police said officers were dispatched around 10:09 p.m. Friday to the area of Welsh Road and Grist Mill Drive, near Ralph’s Corner Shopping Center, for a report of a pedestrian struck. The victim, a woman in her 50s, was found on the ground suffering from head and back pain.
"It currently appears that the pedestrian was walking in the roadway and was struck by the passenger side side view mirror of the car," Towamencin Police Chief Tim Troxel said Monday, adding it is still an active investigation.
Troxel said the woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Luke's Grand View Hospital by VMSC Emergency Medical Services with complaints of pain, but with no visible injuries.
Investigators said the driver fled the scene, but evidence recovered at the crash site helped link a specific vehicle to the incident - a Honda vehicle, possibly an Insight or crossover.
Police later determined the vehicle had been at the Wawa along Forty Foot Road — less than a mile from the crash — for several hours prior to the collision, and that the driver had left the store shortly before the incident.
Authorities initially asked for the public’s help Sunday morning in identifying the driver and vehicle. About four hours later, around 11 a.m., police announced that both had been located and identified.
The investigation remains ongoing and police have not released the ID of the suspect, as charges are still pending based upon completion of the investigation.
Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Towamencin Township Police at 215-368-7606.
There were no road closures in the incident and the scene was cleared by 11:45 p.m. Towamencin Police were assisted at the scene by Hatfield Police.
