The beloved franchise has horror movie fans betting on the film’s Rotten Tomatoes score on one of the top prediction platforms, Kalshi. The film is the sixth in the Final Destination series and will likely bring all the favorite aspects of the previous films to this new iteration.
The trailer for Final Destination: Bloodlines was released in March 2025, and in its first 24 hours, it received over 178 million views. This makes it the second-most-watched horror movie trailer of all time.
The previous Final Destination movie was released in 2011, 14 years ago, and the franchise has had a successful run. The last five films have cumulatively garnered $666M globally. The new film description reads as follows:
Plagued by a recurring violent nightmare, a college student returns home to find the one person who can break the cycle and save her family from the horrific fate that inevitably awaits them.
Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor co-wrote the screenplay, which features Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Brec Bassinger, and Tony Todd in the cast.
With a successful box office run in the past and many views for the trailer, there clearly is hype building around this film, but what about its critical reception?
As of May 12, 2025, traders predict a Rotten Tomatoes score of 77.3 for Final Destination: Bloodlines. Here’s a closer look at how Final Destination movies have performed in the past.
Previous films in the Final Destination franchise did not perform well with critics. All but one of the last five films received a Rotten score, with the fourth film receiving an abysmal 28.
However, the latest Final Destination film was the first to break its Rotten streak and received a Fresh score of 63. The film franchise’s track record doesn’t seem to have a pattern. It hasn’t gotten better consistently over the years and instead is all over the place.
This track record and only one good film are not good signs for the newest film’s critical reception.
While the review embargo has yet to be released as of May 12, 2025, social media first reactions have been released. So far, the reactions have been mixed.
Film critic Steve Varley did not like the film and tweeted that “there is not one memorable kill in the entire film” and that it disappointed him. On the other hand, filmmaker Alexander McNeill enjoyed the movie and called it the funniest one yet, with a poignant sendoff to the late Tony Todd.
The other reactions on Twitter are similarly contrasting, which makes it difficult to get an accurate grasp on early responses. However, since not all of the reviews are overly negative, this can point to an average score rather than an abysmal one.
#FinalDestinationBloodlines is the best entry in the franchise by a blood-soaked mile. The kills are gnarly and creative. It plays with and adds to the mythology. The set-ups and payoffs are magnificent. A screenplay firing on all cylinders! @adamstein @zachlipovsky @FDMovie pic.twitter.com/fk7oXDCqBf
Despite record-breaking trailer views for the upcoming "Final Destination: Bloodlines," mixed early reactions, and the franchise's historically mediocre Rotten Tomatoes scores, prediction markets may be overly optimistic about its critical reception.
