The Confectionary celebrated its storefront opening Friday, May 2 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Nestled in the heart of downtown Souderton at 179 N. Main Street, the cozy shop offers over 100 flavors of gourmet macarons, from classics like chocolate and vanilla bean to unique options like spicy margarita and banana-stuffed French toast.

Owner Arielle Rios, a former accountant, developed a passion for baking macarons during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I don’t have a background in baking. I did accounting for 15 years,” said Rios. “But I’ve always loved baking and cooking, and I just fell in love with it when I started to create macarons.”

Her macarons soon became a popular fixture at local farmer’s markets and cafes as well as Landis Supermarkets. The business’s success culminated in the opening of the brick-and-mortar store in Rios’s native Souderton.

“Nobody could have told me this was possible. I still can’t believe it,” said Rios. “But I’m so happy it gets to be in Souderton.”

The Confectionary officially opened its doors in late March. Rios describes business as “very good” and delights at the customers’ positive experiences.

“It makes me so happy to see the looks on people’s faces when they walk in the door and see the bakery case and try new flavors,” said Rios.

Some of the most popular flavors are salted caramel, peanut butter pretzel and chocolate chip cookie dough. Other options include orange creamsicle, fruity pebbles marshmallow, churro cheesecake and red velvet oreo.

While macarons are The Confectionary’s specialty, the store also offers an assortment of cupcakes. Rios notes that all products are gluten-free.

“I’m gluten-free myself, so we keep everything on separate equipment so it’s safe for people who are gluten-free,” said Rios.

Moving forward, Rios hopes to continue spreading her love of macarons with the community.

“I really just want to be a place for the community to come and be excited about,” said Rios. “I’m so happy that I get to have a bakery in Souderton.”

The Confectionary is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit theconfectionarypa.com.
