A new bonus is now in place for adults, as well as kids, spotted wearing bike helmets in North Wales.

Borough officials rolled out a new partnership on Tuesday night with another borough business who’s come up with a bonus for local residents.

For the past three years, we’ve been very lucky to have a wonderful partnership between borough police and Little’s Ice Cream and Water Ice. Kids who are seen riding around town with their helmets on, will get ‘pulled over’ and get a ticket for a free ice cream,” said Mayor Neil McDevitt.

“At one of the first meetings, somebody said ‘What about the adults?’ That stuck with me, and this year I’m proud to say that, thanks to Bob Zimmerman and Soul Brothers meats, officers will now have another tool to promote bicycle and scooter safety,” he said.

Bob is one of the two brothers who run Soul Brothers, a borough-based butcher located on Walnut Street that opened in April and specializes in sausages.

“If they see adults wearing helmets, or parents walking around with kids who all have their helmets on, they will also get a ticket for a free snack stick at Soul Brothers,” McDevitt said.

“I want to thank Bob and the Soul Brothers team for making that happen. It’s partnerships like this, from our small businesses, that really make this community a wonderful community to live in,” he said.

Zimmerman said the feeling is mutual, and he’s glad to be in the borough.

“One of the greatest things about starting a business in North Wales has been how the borough itself supported us, in getting it going, and all the different aspects that are involved with something like that: to signs, to permits, to all the different pieces that are part of it,” he said.

“I can see what other mayors and boroughs do, and what I find is that in my hometown of North Wales, the people who are here, do the most, to be able to help small businesses. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to be involved, in giving back to a community that has done so much to help us grow as a business.”
