One local woman with a history of retail thefts, according to police, was recently charged for removing a shopping cart filled with groceries from an Upper Gwynedd supermarket.

Karen Christine Hurt, 36, of the 100 block of South Broad Street, in Lansdale, was reported for a retail theft report that had occurred on July 10, around 9:15 p.m., according to police.

Hurt was identified by police a day later on July 11 at 2:41 p.m., at Weis Market in Upper Gwynedd Township, when the store’s lost prevention officer conducted an investigation and reported it to the department, according to reports.

Police said that Hurt “walked past all points of sale, without paying for the items, and exited the store,” with a shopping cart filled with $266.90 wroth of Weis’ merchandise. The store’s lost prevention officer had reviewed surveillance footage, provided to police, along with a list that itemized the stolen goods, police said. Hurt, police said, had a “criminal history” regarding retail thefts, and thusly her charges were moved into a felony category.

Hurt is being charged with four counts of felony theft, including two counts of Retail Theft, taking merchandise, as well as two counts of Receiving Stolen Property. Hurt was released after posting a $77 bail. Her formal arraignment is slated for Sept. 18 at 9:30 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Thomas M. DelRicci.
