Dr. Jessica Jefferis has been appointed as the first Director of Lansdale Catholic High School’s St. Ignatius of Loyola Achievement Program. The program is designed for students with learning differences and will launch this September.
The announcement last week by the Montgomery County school describes Dr. Jefferis as a “lifelong educator with broad experience in Catholic Education” who experience will “provide a strong foundation and vast opportunities for the students.”
“The expertise and experience that Dr. Jefferis possesses will provide a strong foundation and vast opportunities for the students enrolled in our Saint Ignatius of Loyola Achievement Program,” said James Meredith, principal of Lansdale Catholic. “Most importantly, as a lifelong educator, with broad experience in Catholic Education, Dr. Jefferis brings with her enthusiasm and love for her students. Her impact will not only grow the program, but also foster growth in our students.”
For the last 10 years, Dr. Jefferis has served as a learning specialist in the David Program at La Salle College High School.
Dr. Jefferis also serves as an adjunct faculty member at area Catholic universities where she teaches graduate courses in special education, literacy, and educational leadership along with serving as a dissertation advisor for doctoral students.
"Dr. Jefferis has a keen understanding of students with diverse learning needs, and she has dedicated her career to serving as their much-needed advocate," said Lansdale Catholic President Meghan Lister Callen. "It was apparent to our team that she has a passion for the continued, life-long success of her students. Dr. Jefferis is excited about the opportunity to design and launch this inaugural program that will ensure that more students are not only able to choose Lansdale Catholic High School but thrive here."
Dr. Jefferis earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Special Education from Gwynedd Mercy University, her Masters of Education from Holy Family University, and her Bachelors of Arts from Boston College.
The focus of her research includes best practices for instruction for students with learning differences, literacy skills, curriculum design, and professional development for educators.
