A Towamencin Township police officer suffered minor injuries in an accident Saturday evening on Forty Foot Road and was taken to Grand View Hospital by Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale where he was treated and released, Chief Tim Troxel said.

Troxel said the crash is still under investigation. He confirmed that a Ford F-150 Super Duty pickup truck and a Ford Explorer police vehicle were involved in the crash Saturday at Forty Foot and Detwiler roads.

The driver of the F-150, he said, was not injured.

"Pending the completion of the crash investigation, no determination has yet been made regarding the cause of the crash or if any charges will be filed related to the crash," Troxel said.

The police SUV sustained heavy damage to its driver side after the crash. The F-150 had severe front-end damage.

One person was taken to an area hospital by Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale. Their gender, age and condition is unknown at this time.

Forty Foot Road has been closed in both directions, between the entrance to Morgandale and Towamencin Avenue. Detwiler Road is closed between the intersection and the entrance to Dock Mennonite Academy.

The accident occurred shortly before 7:15 p.m. and police closed Forty Foot Road in both directions in order to process the scene. The intersection was reopened after a few hours.

Towamencin Township Police were assisted at the scene by Towamencin Vol. Fire Co. and Harlesyville Fire Police.
