A Pennridge High School teacher was just named the coolest teacher last week by her students in a 93.3 WMMR-FM “The Preston & Steve Show” daily contest.

Tammy Rissmiller, also known as “Ms. Riss,” won the award last Thursday in the radio contest. As part of her prizes, Rissmiller got a $50 Dunkin gift card, a $50 Visa gift card from College Ave, a “The Preston & Steve Show” Coolest Teacher mug, and prestigious bragging rights.

Rissmiller is an advisor to the high school’s Academic Challenge Team and its Students Against Drunk Driving organization.

The school district also honored Rissmiller with a post on Facebook, thanking her for all she does for students and writing the show had “a winner for sure.”

The morning radio show runs its “Coolest Teacher” contest weekdays at 6:15 a.m. during its broadcast. The show randomly selects an area high school, according to its website, to vote for their coolest teacher.

Students in grades 9-12 are asked to email in their vote within 24 hours. Each day, a winner is announced, and a new school is chosen by the show.

“The Preston & Steve Show” Coolest Teacher contest began in 2013. In each of the past two years, 15 teachers have been awarded honors in the contest.
