Confused Corpus Christi Catholic Churchgoers arriving to the 11:30 a.m. Sunday Mass were either temporarily asked to leave the nave and narthex of the sanctuary or remain in vehicles, so that Upper Gwynedd Township Police could successfully speak to a man facing an emotional crisis at the altar.

Upper Gwynedd Township Police Chief David Duffy said no one was at risk, but communication with the 31-year-old man was more effective without others around.

“The subject was determined not to be a danger to himself or others. His family members were contacted, and the subject left the church without incident or charges,” Duffy said.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church is at Sumneytown Pike and Supplee Road in Upper Gwynedd.
