Lansdale Borough is now hiringfor a salaried recreation specialist to assist Borough Parks and Recreation Director Courtney Meehan in managing, developing, promoting, evaluating, and improving programs, services and events for Lansdale, according to the job description on its website.
A Bachelor’s degree in recreation leisure services or the equivalent accreditation and a minimum of two years’ planning and conducting community recreation programs, per the job description.
Applicants may also have an Associate’s degree in recreation, leisure services or equivalent accreditation, and a minimum of four years of experience in planning, and conducting recreation programs or assisting in recreational projects, per the job listing, or five years or more in managing events and programming.
According to Lansdale Borough, the parks department’s mission "is to provide and maintain a well-balanced system of active and passive park sites and recreational facilities; to research, develop and implement a year round program of recreation, leisure, cultural and arts programming, and activities for all segments of the population; to protect open space and preserve the natural resources of the Borough; to provide assistance to youth and adult organizations, cultural groups, and civic clubs in promoting their own programming through the use of facilities all for the express purpose of enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Lansdale Borough and neighboring communities.”
Job duties for the role will include assisting Meehan year-round to address the needs of the community and enhance residents’ quality of life, developing mutually beneficial relationships with those in the community who use park facilities, recruiting, supervising and training pool staff, managing public relations campaigns, and serving as an event liaison, per the job description.
