Lansdale Police alerted citizens Wednesday of a phone scam involving a caller posing as a Lansdale Police Officer asking people for payment for outstanding warrants.

Furthermore, police said the Lansdale Police Department will display on the victim's Caller ID.

Per the department's Facebook, the callers also ask victims for personal information.

The scam involves asking for payment via gift cards, police said.

Lansdale Police said the department does not call citizens to solicit money for payment of warrants.

In addition, no police department or court in the nation will accept gift cards as payment for anything, police said.

Do not give any personal information out over the phone to an unknown person who calls you, police said.

If you have suspicions that the subject on the phone is not an officer, police advised to tell them you will hang up and call them at the police station.

As a general rule of thumb, police said be cautious when speaking with unsolicited callers.
