In the battle of the Knights versus The Black Knights, the latter was victorious.

The North Penn Knights baseball team entered the field at Hempfield High School in Landisville confidently and ready to move ahead toward the 6A-PIAA championships.

Alas, Hempfield’s hits were hot and the Black Knights jousted the Knights to defeat in a brutal 12-2 win in the first round of the Class 6A tournament Monday afternoon, according to Lancaster Online.

The game had an interesting change this time around – the game, per the report, was shortened to six innings by the 10-run rule. A two-run homer from Hempfield’s Brody Gebhard clinched Hempfield High’s win in the first round playoffs.

The Black Knights are 21-6 and District Three 6A champions, per the report.

By the end of the first inning, Hempfield was six for six, bolstered by a two-run double and a two-run single by Hempfield. By the third inning, the fun was fading for North Penn, as Hempfield racked up a four-run third, thanks to a bases-loaded triple from Hempfield’s Brayden Hostetter.

In six innings, North Penn tried its hardest to reach the quarterfinals, but the team just could not catch up to Hempfield’s runs.

According to The Times Herald, North Penn’s Ben Fraley’s two-RBI double put points on the board for the Knights. Knights pitcher Trevor Lugara, per the report, gave up six runs on five hits, one walk and one strikeout.

By the third inning, Hempfield had 10 runs to North Penn’s two. And the bats never cooled off.

However, for North Penn Knights softball, a journey to the quarterfinals is on the horizon, as the girls beat Cumberland Valley Eagles by one run Monday afternoon in the first round of the PIAA-6A contest, per The Reporter.

North Penn’s Gianna Cimino was on fire at the plate, and came through for her team at the top of the seventh inning with a full count. The hit connected and sailed the ball over the fence at Cumberland Valley High School to bring the Knights ahead 3-2. Then, the RBIs started rolling in, first by catcher Sophia Orth’s two RBI single and then pitcher Bella Nunn’s RBI double, bringing the score to 6-2.

It was the teamwork of Nunn and Cimino that clinched the win for the Knights, as a final popup pitched b by Nunn was caught by Cimino, giving the softball team a 6-5 victory over the Cumberland Valley Eagles.
