North Penn School District Transportation Department Receives Awards

The North Penn School District (NPSD) transportation department was recently selected for several awards.

The department received the Award of Excellence in School Transportation from the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials (PASBO). The PASBO award is designed to encourage and recognize local educational agencies that have met the highest standards of safety, efficiency, client service, legal compliance, and financial integrity. NPSD is the only district in Pennsylvania to receive this award in 2023. To receive the award, PASBO examines the operations of the transportation department, including recruiting, retention, training, safety, maintenance, fiscal and environmental responsibility, emergency response, and more.

PASBO is a statewide association focused on developing and supporting leaders in school business operations. The association provides members with professional development, networking, and showcasing best practices in school business. To learn more about PASBO, please visit their website.

Additionally, Dennis Ryan, Transportation Coordinator, was selected as a School Transportation Trailblazer by School Bus Fleet Magazine. Ryan was selected for his leadership in the district and championing new technology to keep innovating in the field of transportation.

Under Dennis Ryan’s leadership, NPSD has continued to add propane buses to its fleet, saving on fuel costs, reducing emissions, and providing a cleaner and quieter ride to school for students. Ryan also launched the "Here Comes the Bus” app at North Penn, providing students and their families with real-time information for their daily bus ride, notifying parents when a bus is late or early, and giving families the option to see when their student has arrived at school safely.

School Bus Fleet is a magazine serving school transportation officials in the United States and Canada. The magazine and website are a source for all things transportation, from alternative fuels to maintenance and safety. For more information, visit their website.
