Souderton Area for All, a member of the nonpartisan Save Souderton Coalition, will host a Character Counts rally Thursday at 6 p.m., prior to the Souderton Area School Board action meeting.

The Coalition is demanding the immediate resignation of School Board Member Bill Formica from the board over a string of objectionable social media posts, said a Souderton Area for All press release.

“Formica has repeatedly posted racist, sexist, xenophobic and homophobic content on various social media platforms including X (formerly known as Twitter) and Truth Social,” reads the release. “He issued a formal ‘apology’ via email through the District’s email distribution list. In this communication, he minimized the seriousness of his behavior, only addressed one lewd social media post disparaging the Vice President of the United States, dismissed concerns of community stakeholders with the exception of ‘his supporters,’ and blamed social media for the content he posted, shared and liked.

“Mr. Formica has yet to address the concerns of the students, teachers and staff of the Souderton Area School District and has not offered any meaningful actions of restoration,” the release added.

Community members will gather prior to the action meeting to demand the resignation of Formica, transparency from the board and administration on how they are addressing this issue and to stand up for values of respect, citizenship, responsibility, fairness, caring, honesty, perseverance, and wisdom, said the release.

The Save Souderton Coalition is an initiative of Souderton Area for All to bring together and amplify diverse voices from the community, to fight against extremism in our public school system and to support vulnerable families and students in the Souderton Area School District, the release stated.
