Runners take your mark: The Race for the Rest of Us returns!
Discover Lansdale is bringing back the grueling
Frachthaus Zer0.5-K after three years’ rest, on Sunday, Oct. 22. Proud underachievers can once again queue up for an afternoon of glory and celebration, and to help raise money for the civic group's community project, the restoration of the historic Lansdale Reading Freight House.
The family-friendly Zer0.5K kicks off at 3 p.m. (racers start gathering at 2) at the Round House restaurant on Wood Street, breaks for carb-loading as needed at the Lansdale Library midpoint, and wraps up at Lansdale Borough Hall on Vine.
From there, racers, families and fans can cross the street for a grand Oktoberfest celebration in the Freight House parking lot, where they'll find a biergarten, local food vendors, a traditional German band and dancers, and more, till 6 p.m. Visitors can also learn more about Discover Lansdale's project plans to turn the distinctive stone structure into a civic venue.
Those daring enough to run the full 1,640-foot course must register online, at
runsignup.com/Race/PA/Lansdale/LansdaleFrachthauszer05k. The cost to enter the Frachthaus Zer0.5K is a $40 donation, ($45 day of event), and includes two complimentary beverages, one before and one after the finish; a participant T-shirt and medal; pretzels and water at the midway point; and entry into the Oktoberfest.
Oktoberfest entry for non-racers is $5. The celebration will feature music by the
Philadelphia German Brass Band, traditional dancing by the
G.T.V. Almrausch German Dance Group, beverages by local breweries including
Well Crafted and
Round Guys, food from local restaurants and vendors, family fun games, kids’ activities and more, till 6 p.m.
Individual and group costumes — cool sunglasses, crazy hats, short shorts, pajamas, whatever — are encouraged, with awards to the best. First, second and third place in the run will receive a special award.
Also back this year: The "VIP Option,” where a donation of $100 gets you motorized transport — specifically, a gas-powered picnic table — along the race route with umbrella and special VIP snacks, plus all the race goodies as well as a bigger medal than everyone else because, well, a hundred dollars.
Volunteers and sponsors are needed; email
