Former Phillies Pitcher Jamie Moyer Makes Appearance at Corpus Christi Catholic School Pep Rally

Former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer leads students at Corpus Christi Catholic School in a Phillies chant at a school pep rally.

Students at Corpus Christi Catholic School were in for a treat Wednesday morning when former Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer stopped by for a surprise appearance at the school’s Philadelphia Phillies pep rally.

Hundreds of students bedecked in Phillies gear had gathered in the auditorium for a pep rally following the team’s Tuesday victory over the Miami Marlins in game one of the National League Wild Card Series. As the pep rally got underway, Moyer entered the auditorium to loud cheers and applause.

“Everyone’s got their Phillies colors on. Who stayed up last night to watch the game?” asked Moyer.

Souderton native, Moyer pitched for the Phillies during the World Series championship in 2008.

“I loved sports when I was your age,” said Moyer to the elementary-school aged audience. “For me, sports has been my life.”

Known throughout the region, Moyer played baseball, basketball and golf as a standout athlete at Souderton Area High School. In his junior year as a pitcher, he had a 10-0 win-loss record and threw three consecutive no-hitters.

Boasting a 25-year professional baseball career, Moyer told the students to work hard to achieve their goals.

“You can reach any goal that you want to reach if you have the ability to focus and work hard and dedicate yourself,” said Moyer.

He stressed that failure is inevitable but is an integral part of the learning process, emphasizing the importance of lifelong learning.

“You’re not always gonna win every game,” said Moyer. “I learned more when I failed rather than when I succeeded. And it’s hard to fail, especially at your age. But it’s how you learn.”

Moyer left the students with a message of self-fulfillment and kindness.

“I challenge you right now to enjoy the space you’re in, make the most of all of your opportunities and be the best person you can be,” said Moyer.

And, “Go Phillies!”
