Perkasie residents celebrated the harvest season for a good cause Saturday afternoon Sept. 30 at St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church’s first Harvest Festival.

Dozens of community members turned out to enjoy food, drinks, games, shopping and more in support of the Pennridge CROP Walk, an event sponsored by the Church World Service to end hunger in the U.S. and around the world.

The church yard was buzzing with activity for the debut event, with church volunteers serving freshly-grilled burgers and hot dogs, local vendors hawking their wares and attendees competing for raffle baskets and prizes in guessing games.

Across the yard, grinning children stroked goats and cows at a petting zoo, sat for face-painting and caricatures and lined up to receive balloon animals. Rounding out the event was live rock music from the local band Pop Roxx.

While the event was held to raise money for the Pennridge CROP Walk on October 8, 25% of the proceeds will benefit Pennridge FISH, the local food pantry.

“Our goal is to raise $40,000,” said Lisa Cadwallader, a church member and Pennridge CROP Walk organizer. “Some of the proceeds from today will go to the CROP walk, some goes to Pennridge FISH. So it’s global and local.”

“It’s just a whole bunch of good people from church pitching in to help,” said Cathy DeRico, a church member and event organizer.
