Towamencin Township Police are investigating an incident involving a small group of young men who were aggressively attempting to convince residents to allow them to fix their driveways on Tuesday evening.

According to one resident, who spoke with North Penn Now on the condition of anonymity, a group of four to five men in their late teens or early 20s were driving around neighborhoods soliciting residents to hire them to fix their driveways. The group approached the resident and their partner aggressively trying to solicit the work, but they left when the couple denied their service.

The resident noted that the men spoke with a British accent.

As the resident was walking their dog approximately 10 minutes later, the vehicle — a gray Dodge Ram with Virginia plates — returned and confronted the resident, began harassing them, and surrounded them and their dog.

The resident said they requested to see a solicitation permit, but the men did not provide one. They added that as they asked more questions, including a request for their contractor number and name of their company, the men became more aggressive and “nasty,” before getting back in their truck and fleeing the neighborhood at a high rate of speed.

“It was concerning to me that they were so aggressive and could provide no actual business information," said the resident. "Their brash actions made me feel worried that they could take advantage of vulnerable community members.”

Towamencin Township Police Chief Tim Troxel confirmed to North Penn Now that they were contacted by the resident at 6:27 p.m. and dispatched an officer to canvass the neighborhood for the men and the vehicle. Ultimately, police were unable to locate them, however the resident was able to provide photos of the truck, including a clear shot of the license plate.

Police said the incident remains under investigation at this time. Anyone with information, or who may have also had contact with the suspicious persons is asked to contact police at 215-368-7606.

Troxel added a reminder to always report suspicious activity immediately, and confirmed that anyone soliciting within the township needs a permit, and that permit can be revoked based on aggressive and improper behavior.
