Lansdale Catholic Girls Basketball Wins First-Ever PIAA-4A Championship

Victory in battle relies not just on the defense and offense, but the crusaders that get the battle won.

Lansdale Catholic Senior Gabby Casey and her wingwoman junior Olivia Boccella were true Crusaders in the 53-45 historic triumph over Blackhawk in Hershey, bringing home the PIAA-4A girls’ basketball state title for the first time in the school’s history.

According to PA Prep Live, the girls’ basketball state title was part of a triple crown, which includes the first-ever Philadelphia Catholic League championship and the District 12 regional title.

Casey, who broke the school’s all-time scoring record, put 28 points on the board and rebounded 16 times in the title winner at Giant Center, according to PA Prep Live.

I think really the feelings wont set in until I see everything we accomplished all together,” Casey told PA Prep Live.Im excited for St. Joes, but Im looking forward to coming back. I still want to be around in the summer, help out with the little kids and camps, make appearances at practices. This team is my home.”

According to the report, District 7 runner-up Blackhawk Lady Cougars, out of Beaver Falls, PA, lost its top player to injury before the postseason. Per the report, the Lady Cougars fought hard, leading by seven points mid-game, down 10 later, and then within one.

At one point, LC trailed 30-27, then had a 32-30 lead. Blackhawk junior Alena Fusetti led her team with 20 points.

According to the Bucks County Courier Times, the Crusaders trailed at halftime, but Casey brought them back via an 11-0 run in the second half.
