Towamencin DAR Presents Annual Awards

Wilma Pengelly, left, and DAR chapter Regent Susanne G. Johnston.

Awards were presented by the Towamencin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) at their February meeting.

  • Mariah Foote, a student at Pennridge High School, Perkasie, Pa., received the DAR Youth Citizenship Award for her volunteer work with the Hilltown Township Volunteer Fire Company.
  • Wilma Pengelly received DAR’s Thatcher award for her work as Chair of the Towamencin Chapter Junior American Citizens (JAC) committee, which promotes civics education, American heritage and history, love of country and service. An example of Wilma’s leadership is her sharing of the history of the Santa Fe Trail, the “Great Prairie Highway” between Missouri and New Mexico, with JAC members as well as with Towamencin Society Children of the American Revolution.

Founded in 1901, the JAC committee helps children from preschool through grade 12 to learn what it means to be a good citizen. The award, established in 1948, is presented to mature JAC members and adults who have shown outstanding leadership, dedication, and service to the program.
