Two grants have been awarded, to the Montgomery County Office of Veteran Affairs and the Veterans Brotherhood in Pennsburg, by
Pennsylvania’s Veterans’ Trust Fund Grant Program, equaling a total of $50,000.
The grants include $15,000 to the Montgomery County Office to provide various forms of transportation to veterans in need so they can get to important medical appointments and job opportunities. The Veterans Brotherhood has been awarded $35,000 in order to provide housing services to veterans faced with difficulty finding secure living spaces.
The funding for these grants was supplied by the $3 donations Pennsylvania citizens make when renewing their drivers’ licenses. Additionally, proceeds from the sale of Honoring Our Veterans license plates also goes to the Veterans’ Trust Fund, as do private donations.
State Rep. Steve Malagari (53rd District) praised the Veterans’ Trust Fund for their efforts.
"I am thrilled to see funds get awarded where they can significantly improve the lives of our local heroes," Malagari said. "Access to reliable transportation and secure housing are fundamental needs that must be addressed to support those who have selflessly served our nation. I commend the Montgomery County Office of Veterans Affairs and Veterans Brotherhood for their tireless efforts in providing critical services to our local vets."
Since its founding in 2013, the Veterans Trust Fund Grant Program has awarded nearly $6.7 million to organizations that support Pennsylvania’s vets.
