Cats may have nine lives, but firefighters saved local felines a couple of them last night.
Upper Gwynedd Fire Department was called out to the unit block of Ivy Lane about 11:30 p.m. Thursday night for a report of a fire in the basement of a township home. The homeowner’s quick thinking in closing the basement door along with rapid response from several area fire companies helped firefighters contain the fire to the room of origin and minimize damage to the structure, according to Upper Gwynedd Chief Eric Geiger.
The homeowner was displaced from the home by the damage to the basement and smoke incursion throughout the house. But no one was injured — including two cats that were rescued from the building by firefighters.
Also responding were the North Penn Volunteer Fire Company, the Fire Department of Montgomery Township, the Fairmount Fire Company of Lansdale, the Centre Square Fire Company, and VMSC of Lansdale.
