A Telford man was charged after he allegedly struck another vehicle and took off on foot in Lansdale.
Tupac Castro, 20, has been charged with accidents involving death or injury without a license, accidents involving damaged attended vehicle/property, failure to stop and give information and render aid, careless driving and driving without a license.
Lansdale Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle hit-and-run accident on July 29 around 7 p.m. on the 900 block of Squirrel Lane. The driver of the struck vehicle told officers that he was traveling north on Squirrel Lane when another vehicle struck him head-on, according to the criminal complaint.
He told police the driver was traveling south on Squirrel at high speed on the wrong side of the road when he hit his car, according to the complaint. The driver continued south on Squirrel, turned west onto Peaceful Lane and stopped on the 1000 block, exited the vehicle and ran west, according to the report. He described the other driver as a Hispanic male with long hair, per the complaint.
When police located the vehicle, a man, identified as Andres Castro, was sitting in the front passenger seat bleeding from apparent head injuries from the crash, according to the complaint. Andres, who reportedly told police he did not know the driver or where he went, was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
When police spoke to the registered owner of the vehicle, he told police that his brothers Andres and Tupac Castro were using his car. Tupac Castro matched the description Jones provided, police said.
Tupac Castro was arraigned on Aug. 15 by Magisterial District Judge Karen Eisner Zucker who set bail at $5,000 unsecured. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing Aug. 23 in front of Magisterial District Judge Edward Levine.
