Bob Keeler, Beloved and Renowned Souderton Area Journalist, Dies at 66

UPDATE: Sept. 13, 9:21 a.m. - Our friend Dan Sokil at The Reporter penned a nice piece about Bob Keeler. It can be viewed here.

Original story follows...

Beloved and renowned Souderton Independent and Perkasie News-Herald journalist Bob Keeler, who has covered the Indian Valley region and the towns in Souderton Area School District and Pennridge School District for more than 20 years, passed away unexpectedly Friday at his home, according to his colleagues at The Reporter Newspaper. He was 66 years old.

According to colleagues, Keeler was working as of Thursday evening when he suddenly fell ill and passed away.

Keeler is survived by his mother and siblings. Future memorial and funeral arrangements are being finalized for Towamencin Mennonite Church, 1980 Sumneytown Pike, Kulpsville.

Keeler’s co-worker at The Reporter, Dan Sokil, who covers news for the North Penn region, called Keeler “a very special person and a pleasure to work with, and a wonderful community newspaperman.”

Memories from the Author

I would either occasionally work in the same newsroom with Bob during my time at The Reporter in the mid-2000s or cross paths with him at a news event when I was with Lansdale Patch more than a decade ago. Bob was very knowledgeable about the people and events on his beat. He was soft-spoken, but his writing was dynamic.

Bob was considered an “O.G.” of the local journalism community and his talents will be missed and should be remembered: He was well-respected by fellow journalists who worked at the Montgomery Media newspaper division, as well as those from nearby independent news publications, including all of us at North Penn Now.
