Reports: Police Involved in Standoff in Montgomery Township

UPDATE: Sept. 1, 4:51 p.m. - Montgomery Township Police have issued a statement indicating that the situation had been resolved as of 4 p.m. 

In a report by 69 News, police said that a person broke into a closed business along the 100 block of Garden Golf Boulevard Thursday morning and threatened self harm. Police said the person was dealing with a mental health illness and had a weapon at the time of the incident, according to the report.

UPDATE: Sept. 1, 2:26 p.m. - North Penn School District has sent an email to parents addressing the ongoing incident, indicating they have been in contact with police and the situation, while still active, has been contained.
The email states there is no threat to the public safety, and schools in the area will be dismissed safely and on time.

UPDATE: Sept. 1, 1:46 p.m. -
According to a report by CBS3, a potentially armed man has barricaded himself inside of a commercial building along the 100 block of Garden Golf Boulevard. The report adds there is no word on if other people are in the building with him.

Montgomery Township Police are involved in a standoff with a barricaded subject somewhere near the area of Bethlehem Pike and Garden Golf Boulevard.

Since approximately 11 a.m. Thursday, North Penn Now has received multiple reports of a heavy police presence in the area, with several witnesses describing seeing police with bullet proof vests and weapons drawn. An exact location for the incident has not been identified at this time.

One witness told North Penn Now that multiple businesses in the area have been forced to close. Police remain in the area and the scene is currently active.

North Penn Now has sent calls, texts, and emails to multiple contacts within the Montgomery Township Police Department, however all have been unanswered as of the time of publishing. We will provide additional information as soon as it becomes available.

Motorists and residents are encouraged to avoid the area.
