Brian Fitzpatrick Defeats Ashley Ehasz in First Congressional District

Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick will serve a fourth term.

The Middletown Township Republican was reelected over Democratic challenger Ashley Ehasz, a Bensalem Township resident.

Ehasz was outraised and outspent by Fitzpatrick, with the congressman reported to have spent $2.8 million as of mid-October, while Ehasz spent $801,300. Outside spending was lower than in elections past.

Fitzpatrick has crafted his image as a moderate choice in the election, while Ehasz attempted to crack that by framing the congressman as a politician who was opposed to abortion in the wake of the repeal of Roe v. Wade.

A source close to Fitzpatrick’s campaign recently said the congressman had internal polling that showed him with a lead over Ehasz in recent weeks.

Fitzpatrick, a former FBI special agent and attorney, was endorsed by Trump in November 2020, but the congressman has not spoken of the endorsement and went as far as to ban Levittown Now from his press list after it reported on the endorsement. A Trump spokesperson declined to comment recently if the former president had endorsed Fitzpatrick in 2022.

Ehasz, a U.S. Army veteran, faced an uphill battle that she said she was prepared to make. The first-time candidate did not receive a high level of national support, as past Democratic candidates did.

Fitzpatrick’s campaign was largely quiet this election cycle, but Fitzpatrick did make rare campaign appearances with GOP U.S. Senate candidate Mehmet Oz leading up to election day.

Fitzpatrick has championed term limits for members of Congress, but he has not stated how many he will serve before bowing out. A fourth term in Congress could be his last. The elected official was caught in a hot mic moment last year stating he had “one or two left in me.”
