Police Seek Suspect In Sleight-Of-Hand Money-Order Scam At Walmart

Suspect in Hilltown Walmart fraud

The Hilltown Township Police Department is seeking the public’s help with an investigation of a money-order scam at Walmart.

On Monday, Hilltown Police were dispatched to the Walmart on Bethlehem Pike to investigate a case of fraud. They were told that the subject entered the store on Sunday, Jan. 23, to purchase money orders.

After laying his cash out on the counter for the cashier to count, the subject collected the money together for the cashier. In doing so, police say he secretly withheld some of the cash, over $2,000.00, before handing it to the cashier. He then received the money orders for the full amount.

Walmart reported discovering the discrepancy after the fact. Police were told that the subject later cashed the money orders at another Walmart.

The subject is suspected of being part of a larger fraud ring committing similar acts at various Walmart locations. Anyone with information on the subject's identity is asked to submit a tip via Hilltown Township Police’s CrimeWatch page. Tips can be made anonymously.
