A registered sex offender residing in Towamencin Township has again been charged with multiple counts of possession of child pornography, following a recent investigation by the Montgomery County Detective Bureau.
Matthew Aubin, 42, was charged with one count of possession of child pornography on Feb. 24, however 74 additional counts were added in the last few days after investigators received the results of forensic downloads that were performed on an electronic device belonging to Aubin.
According to the criminal complaint, investigators with the county detectives were contacted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding a Yahoo email account belonging to a user who had sent themselves 36 digital files of child sexual abuse on Dec. 14, 2020. All images depicted young females between the ages of 10 and 12 years old that were either posed nude or in sexually suggestive ways, the complaint states.
After tracing the IP addresses associated with the Yahoo email account, investigators determined the account belonged to Aubin, and a search warrant was executed at his home along the 1500 block of Staley Circle on Feb. 24, according to the complaint.
While executing the warrant, the complaint states investigators retrieved Aubin’s phone, which was secured for a forensic download. In total, investigators said they recovered 370 images and videos of child sexual abuse, depicting girls between the ages of 8 and 12 years old posing nude and engaging in sexual activities.
Aubin was taken into custody following the search warrant, and he was arraigned on one count of possession of child pornography by Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine, who set bail at $50,000 cash.
Court records indicate that Aubin posted bail on March 7 and was released from the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on March 8. Records also show that Aubin’s attorney, Michael Quinn, was granted a continuance on March 22 and a new date for his preliminary hearing has been set for April 7 at 10 a.m.
Aubin previously pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of child pornography in April 2012, which resulted in a sentence of one-to-23-months in county jail followed by three years of probation upon release. In addition to jail and probation, Aubin was required to register as a sex offender for a period of 10 years, beginning Jan. 17, 2012 and ending Jan. 17, 2022.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
