July First Friday Details Announced: Beer Garden Lineup, Food Trucks, Live Music and Ax Throwing

It’s been a long time coming.

Discover Lansdale’s First Friday season will officially begin this Friday, with an America-themed event that boasts all the fan-favorite staples of previous events along with some new additions and first-time food trucks. (Click here for the Facebook event)

The event is scheduled to be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on July 2, and guests are encouraged to wear their favorite red-white-and-blue ensembles. The event marks the official return of First Friday festivities to the borough, which were cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Locations of festivities will center around three places: Railroad Plaza, West Main Lot and South Wood Street. A fourth location — the courtyard of Lansdale Station apartments — will also serve as a second beer garden, operated by Well Crafted Beer Co. and featuring food and live music.

See below for more information.

UNIQUE ACTIVITIES

This month’s unique activities include:

  • Ax throwing (South Wood Street)
  • A climbing wall (Railroad Plaza)
  • A dunk tank with Lansdale Mayor Garry Herbert (South Wood Street)
  • Firefighter hose for kids (Susquehanna Avenue)
  • Two artists performing live paintings

FOOD TRUCKS AND VENDORS

Organizers expect to have roughly five food trucks, with another handful of non-vehicle food vendors throughout the event space.

Food trucks and vendors include:

Food trucks will be lined up single file on Madison Street at Railroad Plaza. Additionally, non-vehicle food vendors will be placed along South Wood Street and inside the beer garden at the West Main Lot.

ENTERTAINMENT

July First Friday will feature music at four locations: The Rob Tait Band on the stage at South Wood Street, DJ Chris Evans at Railroad Plaza, DJ Tone Arm at the West Main Lot beer garden and Tim Lordan at the Well Crafted Beer Garden.

Music and performances will begin at each location around 6 p.m. and end around 9 p.m. with the exception of the Well Crafted Beer Garden, which will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

BEER GARDEN

The First Friday Pop-Up Beer Garden at the West Main Lot has bolstered its offerings for its third season, with an emphasis on more choice and more fun. The lineup for July includes:

The West Main Lot Beer Garden will also feature tables and chairs, food offerings, cornhole, music and giant Jenga. Additionally, alcoholic beverages will be available on South Wood Street, courtesy of Round Guys Brewing Co., and at the Well Crafted Beer Garden at the Madison Station Courtyard.

All guests must be 21+ to drink, and all drinks must remain in the event space where they were purchased. Carrying drinks from one location to another is strictly prohibited.

ART STROLL

A new feature of the 2021 First Friday season — one that we were eager to debut last year prior to COVID-19 rearing it's ugly head — will be an accompanying art stroll and art demonstrations throughout the event space, courtesy of Erik Sacony and the Headway Art Collective.

For July, guests will be able to view a variety of styles from local artists at businesses on West Main Street and South Wood Street. Additionally, there will be two artists performing live paintings of the event.

KIDS' ZONE

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and the current lack of a vaccine for children under the age of 12 years old, we have made the decision to forego bounce houses for the 2021 season. Our kids’ offerings for July include face painting, the climbing wall, music and the return of fan-favorite balloon artist Scott Myers.

Kids’ offerings will be spread throughout the event space.

PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT

The photo scavenger hunt has returned as a recurring activity for each First Friday in the 2021 season, with a winner being drawn at the end of each event.

Seven photos will be added to the Facebook event page in the days leading up to the event. To participate, you must be able to identify all seven locations, write them down (along with your name and contact info), and submit it at the Discover Lansdale booth at Railroad Plaza by 9 p.m.

A winner will then be drawn at random, who will receive a prize package from Round Guys Brewing Co. valued at more than $150.

TIMING, WEATHER, CONTACT INFO

This season, First Fridays begin at 6 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. Road closures include South Wood Street from Main to Courtland, Madison Street from Main to the end of the one-way, and Susquehanna Ave. from Main to Courtland.

Should there be a threat of inclement weather, a decision will be announced by 1 p.m. regarding whether or not the event will be held. There is no rain date for First Fridays.
