Franconia Township Police said Thursday afternoon that a rumored threat of violence at Souderton Area High School was investigated and found to be not credible.
In a public statement, police said:
"In an effort to further alleviate concerns and reduce the volume of calls to both police and the school district, we are providing additional information in conjunction with the Souderton Area School District.
"Yesterday afternoon the school was made aware of a threatening social media post attributed to an SAHS student. We worked closely on the investigation with the school district administration and (school district) police and have jointly determined there is
no credible threat (emphasis theirs). Some social media posts had mischaracterized what had actually occurred and we want to clarify that no specific, direct threat was made.
"Again, our police department, along with school and other local departments, are providing a visible presence at the high school to reassure the safety and comfort of students, staff, and parents.
"Threats of any kind are never taken lightly, and we will always act quickly and collaborate closely with school district administrators and police to ensure the safety of all students and the community at large.”
On Wednesday evening, the Franconia Township Police had posted on Facebook concerning a potential threat Thursday: "We are aware of the rumors circulating about threats of a shooting to happen at Souderton Area High School tomorrow, 12/9/2021. It is being investigated. The Souderton School District Police and Pennsylvania State Police are also coordinating in the investigation. The relevant people are being interviewed. We believe there is no threat.”
There were no further details on the nature or origin of the threat.
