A local food company has been awarded a grant from both the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Development and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
As part of the Pennsylvania Dairy Investment Program, Lansdale-based Numa Foods will receive the $83,070 grant to purchase and install several pieces of milk processing equipment, including two 80-quart mixers, a cutting machine, a pouch filler machine, a packaging machine and two sugar boiling systems.
These equipment upgrades will allow the company to process their milk-based nougat snacks at a higher, more efficient capacity, from 4,500 pieces per hour to 22,500 pieces per hour. Dairy use from products including butter, butter powder and whole milk powder would increase from 75 pounds to 375 pounds per shift.
“State money is headed back to our community to directly assist Numa Foods in a six-figure expansion of its Lansdale Borough facility,” said state Rep. Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery. “This grant will not only improve the output of the Lansdale facility but also improve its efficiency.”
The funding was provided through the Dairy Investment Program, which is administered jointly by the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and the PA Department of Agriculture (PDA) under the direction of the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).
“I am happy to see a local farm be presented with funding that will not only allow for a higher productivity rate, but one that is also more efficient,” Mensch said. “This grant to Numa Foods LLC is key for continuous success for the business and the economy as a whole."
