School District Asks for Continued Patience As They Navigate Through Closure-Related Issues

(The following is a release from North Penn School District Superintendent Curt Dietrich.)

Dear North Penn,

Just a quick update as we start our third week of distance learning. First of all, I hope that everyone found ways to enjoy the spring break.

Thank you to those who took a few moments to send their thoughts about end-of-year activities to [email protected]. Hundreds of emails poured in since Thursday night and all are being looked at closely. From virtual commencement to a drive-in style commencement to making sure we hold 6th-grade parties and DARE graduations, your feedback is important as we consider our options.

That being said, it will take some time to sort through the input and prioritize some of the ideas that might work for a district our size. And all of this must be done without knowing what the future holds for us in terms of social distancing and the spread of COVID-19.

I am asking for your continued patience as we also make operational plans. Many of you are asking how to retrieve personal items left behind, how to register for before and after school care, if summer camps will be held, and more. To most of these questions, the answer is, “we are working on it.”

It is important to remember that until last Thursday, April 9, we were operating under the hope we would reopen this academic year, but also proactively planning for a complete shutdown. Many, many decisions still need to be made. We are and will continue to seek input via [email protected]. We will also be scheduling an online community forum for the near future.

In the meantime, we continue to post all new information to https://resources.npenn.org/. There you will find recently added Frequently Added Questions and a live interview with school board member Jonathan Kassa who spoke with the local media regarding much of the same information. There is also a direct link to order North Penn Strong apparel through the NPSD Educational Foundation to support internet access for those in need. I am thrilled to report we have already sold more than 1,500 items. I cannot wait to wear mine!

Finally, many of the emails we received over break also contained words of gratitude and encouragement. This support is what keeps many of us going, so thank you for that.

Please continue to be well, practice social distancing and be North Penn Strong.

Sincerely,

Curtis R. Dietrich, Ed.D.

Superintendent
