No Charges for Driver Involved in Broadmore Apartments Crash (PHOTOS)

Lansdale Borough Police have informed North Penn Now that they will not pursue charges against the driver of a vehicle that crashed into the Q Building of Broadmore Apartments on Wednesday morning.

Police, fire and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the 600 block of South Broad Street at 9:28 a.m. on Dec. 11 for a report of a vehicle that had crashed into an apartment building. The driver—identified as a female in her 60’s—told police that she had experienced some type of mechanical failure in the vehicle, which caused it to uncontrollably accelerate into the building with no way to stop.

The vehicle crashed through a brick wall and fully entered a downstairs apartment in the Q Building, which was occupied at the time by a male who was sleeping. Neither the driver nor the occupant were injured as a result of the incident, police said.

Due to the damage caused by the crash, both the downstairs apartment, as well as the recently refurbished, vacant upstairs apartment, have been condemned until they can be fixed and restored.

“The damage was significant,” said Lt. Ryan Devlin, of the Lansdale Borough Police Department. “The whole back of the apartment was destroyed, rendering not only the downstairs unit but also the upstairs apartment uninhabitable.”

In addition to the Lansdale Borough Police Department, members of the Fairmount Fire Company and the Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale assisted at the scene.

Police said they were unaware of the arrangements being made for the displaced downstairs tenant.
