Zumbathon Raises $1k for Local Cancer Patient's Wedding

A Zumbathon Sunday raised nearly $1,000 to give a local cancer patient the wedding of her dreams.

Miranda Trejo led a group of about 40 people in a Zumba event held in Souderton to help fund a wedding for Taylor Goettner, a Hatfield native and North Penn graduate, and fiance Tyler. People even came out just to watch and support the cause, whether or not they decided to participate in the dancing.

"For such short notice, I was pleased and the energy was great,” said Trejo. "Taylor wasn’t able to make it because she ended up in the ER, but her love was felt.”

Goettner has been battling a particularly aggressive form of ovarian cancer for the past decade, after a tumor was discovered at age 16.

The money was raised from admission to the event as well as through online donations. In addition to monetary donations, people stepped forward to donate services for her wedding including a DJ, hair, flowers, officiant and photography.

Someone even offered to supply a wedding dress.

"It is amazing what we can do when we come together to help one another,” Trejo said. "We need more of this in this world. We are rooting for her, and praying she gets the beautiful wedding she deserves.”

Contributions can also be made through the cause's GoFundMe page.
